Inspiration

From a recent trip to China, specifically a village outside of Shanghai, Bernadine brought with her photography taken from the estates of the wealthy and nobility. The main theme of her photo work is the lattice design window which is made of either wood or metal and is traditionally a crossed over design to produce designs that can mean different words.

The following lattice jewelry collection from Bernadine Design Co is all inspired from photographs taken from the estates near Shanghai. Certain patterns and designs evoke or suggest specific emotions and meanings. The superstitious aspect of using specific lattice design on the estate walls is that they would emit the energy they were patterned after. For example, estate owners would choose lattice patterns that meant strength, longevity and fertility to increase the likelihood that he and his family would be blessed with each of those aspects. Included with each piece is a brief description of the artist’s inspiration and the meaning of the pattern.
